Why Play NorCal Spring League?
Registration closes February 22
NorCal is increasingly creating the organization needed for Northern California young soccer players and teams to join and benefit from the system of play organized for young players throughout Europe - 9 to 10 months of play with appropriate holidays, 40 to 50 games, and 80 to 120 practices over a period of the whole year.
This is the "recreational program" throughout Europe for the younger players who love to play our wonderful sport. The idea of a Soccer Club sponsoring a part-time younger team is unknown in Europe! Why? Probably because experience has shown that the many physical and social benefits achieved and learned during a four month period will quickly be lost during a 6 month lay-off from actually practicing and playing soccer.
Also, imagine the effect of the unspoken messages to young players wh en they are told "their team" is finished for 6 to 8 months. By any standard, the American experiment with part time teams and players has not worked well - especially for the players who love to play the most popular sport in the history of the World!
More and more, Soccer Clubs are forming multiple teams in the younger age groups and playing the European schedule. Experience has shown that many more of these players - if they love the sport - will continue to play and improve as they get older. The days when a small number of so called "elite" players dominate being selected for "travel teams" and the rest are forced to play "recreational" soccer are over.
It is the goal of NorCal that within a few years - every young player who loves our wonderful sport will have a team on which to play. It might be a first team or a fifth team in a Club, but it will be a team which is serious about helping the young players improve and enjoy the learning and playing experience.
NorCal asks that all Clubs take a pro-active interest in forming multiple teams for the youngsters who love to play soccer. These are the future stars of our wonderful sport - at various levels - the high amateur older players, the fans of the future, and not to be overlooked the future financial supporters of "their Club" younger players. Is this a hopeful dream? No, it has already happened all over the World! Why not Northern California?
Thank you,
NorCal Premier Soccer
