Older Norcal State Cup Registration Remains Open as Surf Cup Travel Fund reaches $30,000

OLDER UNDER 15 AND ABOVE NORCAL  STATE CUP(S):

The Older State Cup Deadline of August 4th has been extended as the teams are being processed! . The games for the Older State Cup will be scheduled according to a team’s high school soccer season. When your team is in high school, they take a break from the State Cup, while the teams not in high school compete.

We will avoid the different High School seasons to eliminate any conflicts for your players. During the time their season is held, those teams will not be competing  - allowing all teams to participate in the NorCal  State Cup(s).
For the Under 15 to U18, NorCal has reduced the entry fee to $200 with all  income from these ages, except the field and referees costs for the quarters, semis and finals, going into the travel fund for the teams that win the Premier Divsion and earn the automatic invite to the 2009 Surf Cup. With the addition of $5,000 from the NorCal reserves for the U14 Boys and Girls Premier Champions that fund has grown to $30,000 and will be divided by formula among the teams based on the number of teams in the age/gender group.
Also, the Board has decided that a Cup will definitely be organized in each age/gender group. However,  if stronger teams do not enter a specific age/gender it might be that the winning team will not earn an invitation to the 2009 Surf Cup.

Format:
Teams will be seeded and placed in groups of four based on their high school soccer seasons and their region.
Each team will play 2-3 group matches, over a 2-3 month span.
Depending on the number of teams entered teams will advance to either Premier Cup, Gold Cup, Silver Cup group play (2-3 games) or they will advance directly to the quarter finals.

Timeline:

September through November
Three games in Group Play - for teams not in High School Soccer

December through February
Three games in Group Play - for teams not in High School Soccer

March through May
Quarters and Semi’s – Matches will be held at one site and advertised to college’s as a college showcase event.
State Cup Finals – dates to work around CYSA State Cup and college showcases
If the U14 – 15 boys and girls and U17 -18’s girls are the first weekend in April we will schedule the opposite.

Finals will be held in May.

We will schedule final round matches around college showcase weekends.

Upon registering teams must write, in their team history, their high school season time line. The teams will compete in their group play against other teams with the same high school calendar - during the time they have a break from high school soccer. Upon the completion of the official high school soccer season, in March, the teams will compete on a state wide basis – based on their results in their group play.

The preliminary games will continue to be played in a manner that provides both some certainty as to period of time, but also flexibility when needed for acceptable reasons.

It is the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals that must have set dates for which teams can plan as settled. These dates will be set once the CYSA state calendar is set. We will schedule around the CYSA state cup calendar to ensure the teams do not have to make a choice between the two competitions.

Finally, we are very pleased to be able to offer the winning teams of our top cup division automatic entry into the Surf Cup. We are also in contact with other top College Showcase Events in the Western United States to secure the same consideration.

Thank you! Benjamin Ziemer, NorCal League Manager for the Board of Directors
