NorCal Premier Announces Sportmanship Section
Thursday, 19 June 2008
Norcal has always had a strong interest in the overall “sportsmanship” of the NorCal teams. This focus on not only the playing of soccer itself, but also on how it is played and the general atmosphere during the game has been a part of  NorCal since the beginning. In order to promote and educate coaches, players, parents and all of us involved in soccer NorCal Premier has established a Sportmanship Section. Click here to view!
This focus took on a special meaning for  the Board of Directors and the League Manager when sadly and painfully they voted to eliminate a team from the Fall, 2007 League because “parent misconduct” led  many players on a young team to also lose control. This sad situation came on the heels of the Referee Coordinator sending the Board a chart showing that in Spring, 2007 there had been noticeable increase in player violence – fighting – among the older teams of boys.

With the introduction of the team Sportsmanship meeting before the 2008 Spring League these problems have shown a marked improvement. However many teams did not respond and never sent notification of the meeting.

Now the coach, manger or another team representative will have to signify that they have informed all members of their team, especially the parents, that their destructive actions can result in the team for which their children play being eliminated from an ongoing Norcal event and those in the future.

The NorCal Board of Directors will not allow a very small number of parents to bring discredit to our wonderful sport! They must understand that whatever the situation in a game – real or perceived – threats and violence are never acceptable and will never be tolerated!

It is against the rules to allow teams or players to enter a Club and then tell NorCal they are out of the control of the team or Club. After the parents, the team is the first teacher of sportsmanship and proper behavior – along with the soccer skills!

ALL U9-U14 TEAMS ENTERED INTO NORCAL CUP MUST DO THE FOLLOWING ACTION

All U9-14  teams entered into NorCal Premier State Cup must re-agree to the terms of the event. This can be done by going back to your submitted application and agreeing to the new terms of the event which now includes the following new term : All teams are required to hold a meeting regarding fair play & sportsmanship with players & parents prior to the start of the competition. Teams that do not have a Sportsmanship meeting will have game(s) forfeited and/or removed from the competition and/or be denied entry to future NorCal Premier events. If a player(s) or parent(s) is not available to attend a meeting and /or joins the team after the official start of the event,  they should receive the information about team standards individually at the appropriate time. Teams are able to get more information on Sportsmanship and how to have this meeting by going to http://www.norcalpremier.com/sportsmanship

If your team already has held a Sportsmanship meeting this calendar year 2008, you do not need to hold another meeting. NorCal thanks you for already doing this. Teams still need to re-agree to the new terms of NorCal State Cup.
