Sportmanship Requirements What NorCal is Doing |
|
Friday, 06 June 2008 |
As was mentioned in an earlier message, NorCal is going to require teams to reagree to the Terms and Conditions for the 2008 NorCal State Cup(s) registration process. This new procedure will not be difficult, but it will require the attention of the Team Manager, Coach or another team representative.
Here is what will happen:
- The new policy will change the requirment of email notification to NorCal of the “team sportsmanship meeting” from the previous email message to a “check off aggreement” in the event Terms & Conditions process.
- NorCal will add a “sportsmanship explanation” to the terms section of the application process to explain that the team Coach(es) and Manager are responsible for the behavior of all players, parents and team fans.
- It will stress that NorCal has a “zero tolerance” policy for aggressive language, fighting, foul and abusive language, or any language that is demeaning to any single person or group of persons.
- It will stress that a team can be (and already has been) eliminated from NorCal competition, both present and future, because of the breaking of the above rules by not only players, but also parents and fans.
- It will stress that NorCal, after following set procedures, will not hesitate to eliminate teams involved in fighting from both an on-going event and future competitions.
- It will stress that the Clubs have overall responsibility for all their teams; and that all parents must understand that their positive behavior is noticed, expected and appreciated; while any negative behavior is also noticed and not acceptable.
- If your team already has held their team “sportsmanship meeting” your team representative will need only to check off the appropriate box accepting the NorCal terms.
- If your team has not yet had that meeting, please have it quickly so that you can follow the above procedure and finalize your registration for the 2008 NorCal State Cup(s). Teams will be notified – about June 15th - when everything is in place for the managers to check off the appropriate box signifying that you are required to have a “sportsmanship meeting.
Less than half of the Spring League teams sent the email notification of having had the “sportsmanship” meeting. This new “computer system” will guarantee 100% compliance.
It has been suggested by a “cynic” that some teams might not hold the meeting and still check the box. This would not only be incredibly “short sighted”, but also a serious breach of honor, good faith and trust.
NorCal is always interested in hearing from participants in our League about the behavior – both good and not so good – of our teams, players, coaches and parents. Please send any comments to
