It is important that the great majority of teams understand that excellent progress is being made in regards to these issues and that NorCal is now putting in place the final policies to create the wholesome atmosphere that every thoughtful soccer person thinks necessary.
Main themes:
There have been 4 recent major incidents that has resulted in NorCal instituting new policies to better identify problems and then take actions to eliminate that type of behavior! This week we have expelled a player for one year due to his actions during recent games. We have also placed teams on probation for failing to report red cards to our referee coordinator. Furthermore, several Clubs have been placed on notice (probation) that they must have control of their players and teams. It must be understood by everyone, especially parents, that NorCal has an absolute “zero tolerance” for some of the disgraceful behavior that has been recently reported. Here are the recent reports which have been sent into NorCal: 1. NorCal has received reports of taunting and disparaging remarks that are offensive to some or all of the many ethnic groups – and all thoughtful people - involved in NorCal events! Any remarks made by parents or players that are disparaging to any ethnic group must stop immediately! At a NorCal Spring League game, parents were heard yelling the following at the players on their team: "Saque le la sangre!" -Draw blood! "Que Quebran las piernas"-Break their legs! "No te cuide a ese, es un baboso!"- Don't guard him he's an idiot! "Las rodillas - ataque! "-Attack the knees! At almost every NorCal team has players and parents who speak and understand Spanish! Parents must be made aware that they cannot hide their poor behavior thinking that their abusive language will not be understood. Furthermore, if this type of language is being used, in the future, NorCal expects that the coach, manager or other parents take actions to bring it quickly to a stop, and the team will immediately self-report the incident to both their Club and NorCal. 2. At a recent non Norcal, but US Club sanctioned tournament, a number of parents lost control and were involved in both verbal attacks and actual physical violence. While the above violence was happening, the Chairman of the NorCal PAD committee, attending as a parent, heard young players “bragging” about their father’s violent behavior. Beginning immediately, NorCal will follow up with US Club tournaments held in our area and will, if necessary, not accept or eliminate teams that are involved in unsportsmanlike behavior. 3. Against NorCal rules, a Club has allowed teams to enter their Club even though they admittedly could not control the parents. It is important and required that all Clubs are in control of every player, parent and team playing within their Club. Beginning immediately, every team should begin to report (even self-report) to NorCal incidents that are destructive to good sportsmanship and civility. We follow up on every single reported incident! Again, we would like to compliment the great majority of players, parents and coaches who act in a manner that exemplifies good sportsmanship!
