Registration for the 2008 NorCal State Cup(s) seems to be ready to set new records in all age groups except the Under 9 Girls! NorCal does not yet understand why more than twice as many Under 9 Boys teams would register as Under 9 Girls teams. In fact, given what we know about the differences in maturity rates between girls and boys – it might be expected that , at the very youngest age group, more girls teams would register than boys. Our goal this year is 24 teams in the Under 9 Girls. If your Club has not yet reached out to the girls, there is still plenty of time to form teams of girls who love our wonderful sport. If your Club has teams, but have not entered them, please consider entering them and helping the Division reach 24 teams. At that level, all teams will be guaranteed 7 games and a place in an 8 team quarter-final division with 12 of the teams guaranteed a semi-final game in one of 3 divisions; and 6 teams playing in a Championship game. In 2007, 160 teams involving over 10,000 players and families participated in the Under 10 NorCal State Cup(s). NorCal took a special interest in the overall atmosphere of the over 500 games played. The handful of negative situations were overwhelmed by the many hundreds of positive experiences for everyone involved; and in 2008 we will be even more proactive to avoid even one negative situation. Registration for the younger (Under 9 to Under 13) NorCal State cup(s)is open until Monday, June 2nd . It is strongly recommended that teams (U11 and below) new to NorCal register immediately in the hopes that if a playoff is needed to reach a multiple of 8 – they will be exempt from those games because of an early registration date.
