NorCal has been told by knowledgeable soccer personalities that the Norcal State Cup(s) formats are the most creative tournament format of which they are aware. Registration is now open for the 2008 Under 13 Girls and Boys NorCal State Cup.

All teams will be seeded and then play 3 Regional games (a small percentage of teams might have to play out of Region) for further seeding. It is unlikely, but under the “rules of play” technically a possibility that a team might have to travel more than 250 miles for a single “qualifying” game.

The second round groupings based on match results often results in travel with the higher seeds having two home games and the lower two away games. It is important that teams – especially those participating for the first time – realize that a Norcal State Cup(s) involves teams from Visalia to possibly as far as Chico north and to Monterey and Sonoma County west. The great majority of teams are within 90 minutes of the Greater Bay Area.
 
NorCal has been quite successful at developing and improving the “ranking and seeding” of teams. Once that process has been set in place, everything moves by formula with the result that if a Visalia team is seeded highest or second highest in a group of four playing a three game round robin – two teams will need to travel to Visalia to play that single game; and Visalia will have to make the same journey north for their single away game.
 
This is definitely not an event for teams reluctant to travel – even though for most teams the travel is quite moderate. Please do not enter and then ask for a “change of rules” to help your team avoid travel.  Plan for lots of travel and you will most likely be in the majority that has only a moderate amount.
