During the past two events, NorCal has allowed teams and clubs that do not have adequate fields to take the “no home games” option. This has worked very well and has raised the overall level of the fields on which the teams play. While the quality of the fields needed for spring league is not quite as high as those needed for the NorCal state cup(s) – NorCal does want the fields to be in good shape, be the appropriate size and properly lined; and have standard size goal posts with secure nets. Furthermore, there should be at least two licensed referees in uniform, with their badges. If your club has a field problem, the “no home games” option can give you a season to begin to find fields for your club to use for future events. By state law, new non-profit groups cannot be “frozen out” of using fields on an equitable basis. However, for a year, they cannot be available because you did not apply in a timely manner and the fields have already been allocated. It is best to apply for fields on the first day that applications can be filed with the appropriate agency – school, city or county. If a club asks to have “no home games” those clubs will not be asked to pay for either the fields or referees. The teams with an extra game will save both travel time for the parents and the increasing travel expenses. If your club has 6 teams entered, you will usually have 2, 3 or 4 home games on the average week-end with either 2, 3 or 4 teams traveling. On a doubleheader day, your club might have 5 games – 2 doubleheaders and a single game. Your other 3 teams would be traveling. If you have trouble finding adequate fields and/or referees for your teams, please use this option so that teams are not traveling long distances to play on inadequate fields.
