Norcal now has the dates set for both the preliminary 3 games, the centrally located 4 games, and the semi-finals and finals of the 2008 under 9 and under 10 Norcal state cup(s). Please use this early notification to avoid schedules being designed that conflict with those four days in November! Preliminary 3 games – any Sunday (or if agreed to between the teams, any day) between the posting of the schedule, July 15th and Sunday, October 13th, 2008 – arranged between the teams state “seeding round” – Saturday (am & pm) & Sunday (am), November 15th and 16th, 2008 Quarterfinals – Sunday (pm, November 16th, 2008 All teams registered will play in the above 7 games: Semi-finals, which will include 50% of the teams that entered – Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 Finals that will include 25% of the team that entered – Sunday, November 23rd, 2008 Since our schedules are publicized on-line early, and we have had a few known instances of purposeful scheduling of other association league games on the “set cup(s) days”, teams that enter the Norcal state cup(s) must know for sure that they have the ability to re-schedule any league or district games in case of a conflict with a Norcal state cup(s) game played at a central location. Fortunately, this is not a problem for the great majority of Norcal teams. However, a new club entered Norcal recently with an “explicit other league rule” that their league or district games take precedence over “any” Norcal games. With this rule in place, that club has already been informed by Norcal that their teams will not be allowed to enter teams into any Norcal competitions in the fall that have set dates that can not be changed – specifically the Norcal state cup(s). The two major clubs for participation in Norcal state cup(s), by far, are the placer united and mustang soccer clubs. I have contacted officials at both clubs for an explanation as to how they could have so many teams participating and no conflicts in 2007. Both indicated that neither of their districts has a “must play” district cup. Both said with eight months notice that all teams will have games on November 15th and 16th; and if they advance (50% will) a game on November 22nd; and if they win again (25% will) the finals on November 23rd; – they are 100% certain that their teams will be ready and able to play all games as scheduled. No person outside of their club has the ability to interfere with “their teams” ability to play on those dates. The same is true for all strictly us soccer club teams. It will be a sad day for the Norcal board of directors, league manager and staff; and every Norcal club officer, team coach and manager when teams are not accepted into a Norcal state cup(s) because the team was not able to guarantee they could play a game at a certain date and place – known and publicized 8 months in advance. If you have any contact or influence with “decision makers” in other soccer organizations, please ask them to consider making decisions in the best interests of the soccer players and families! Now, rather than later, is the time to publicize this issue and seek a solution that matches the “talk” about serving all of the children.
