From Ajax Amsterdam Website:
Ajax’s youth academy is world famous. The goal of Ajax is to form talented young players into top football players. Only the very best will reach the top after a difficult and often long road. Johan Cruijff, Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard, Wim Kieft, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Kluivert are but a few of the international stars that have successfully completed the training at the youth academy.
At AFC Ajax, the training of top football players takes centre stage. That is why the youth academy is also known as the breeding ground of Dutch football. The further you get, the harder it becomes to maintain your place and to reach the ultimate objective - to play in the Amsterdam Arena. Only one or two players make it to the first team each year.
Ajax is partly dependant on players from its own youth academy. The youth teams are trained in exactly the same way as the first team en these boys are therefore already accustomed to Ajax’s style of play.
Central within the club is the style of play (4-3-3), training, behaviour and house rules. Ajax strives to keep the way of playing football recognisable; attractive, offensive-minded, creative, fast, fair and preferably far away from the own goal on the opponents’ half.
Ajax has developed the so-called TIPS model, which stands for Technique, Insight, Personality and Speed. For each part there are ten criteria. P and S are generally innate properties, but I and S can always be developed further. The players own a special Ajax passport, in which all achievements are noted.
Registration is now open for the upcoming June 26th to July 1st Dutch Coaching Clinics! Welcome back Jan from Ajax; and a warm first welcome to Aloys Wijnker from AZ Alkmaar 1967 - both Head of Soccer Education for their Dutch Professional Clubs!

Hello,
This is another of the continuing NorCal Clinic events arranged to provide Northern California Soccer coaches the opportunity to learn from successful Soccer Educators. Jan and Aloys have already successfully participated – are participating - in what everyone agrees must and will happen in Northern California if we are to improve the soccer opportunities for our younger players.
NorCal strongly recommends that every NorCal coach attend one of these Clinics and use that day to make that commitment to take the time to learn and grow as a coach.
Northern California needs better trained coaches to develop the better trained players of the future! This now should be the #1 priority of all Norcal Clubs – the retraining and general overall improvement of the next generation of Soccer Coaches!
During the past forty years, through no fault of past or present youth coaches or Youth League organizers, Northern California soccer players – along with all other areas of the U.S. - have fallen further behind in the development of higher level soccer players and players at all levels.
Compared to other developed countries, the proof of that statement is there for all to see – only two professional teams for a population of over 10,000,000; and few of the hundreds of thousands – several million - of young players over the last 40 years still playing – or even more sadly – even serious soccer fans.
The American experiment to build soccer programs based on Youth Leagues rather than “children to adult” Soccer Clubs did not work well! The idea of developing skilled soccer players in a 3 to 6 month per year program was not successful.
The dedicated young soccer players of today are the most fortunate of those born in the last fifty years. The system(s) being put into place through the efforts of many thousands of dedicated soccer fans belonging to almost 200 NorCal Soccer Clubs is based on successful programs found all over the World – not an experimental new system of organizing players, teams and Leagues.
Some of these young dedicated players who love our wonderful sport so much will, sadly, be luckier than others. The lucky ones will have coaches in the future who took the time to be able to help their players reach for the next higher level of play.
The future of Northern California soccer is happening now – one coach at a time – joining together with other coaches. Their purpose is not only to win games, but to help develop and train higher level soccer players who can be the adult players and fans of the future – playing at all levels from the “once in a generation” superstar to the forty year old playing in the Sunday adult league; and in all the levels of play in between - from Youth League to High School to semi-pro to high level young adult leagues.
Among the tens of thousands of present day young players – Soccer Educators would expect statistically that there be a wide range of talent waiting to be recognized and further developed. Academic education is the precious gift that the older generation provides for the younger.
Along with that education, the Soccer Community is organizing a Soccer Education program for the young players who love our wonderful sport. As in many areas of life and learning - school in general, art, music, other sports, 4H, and many more – these young soccer players need the inspiration and the help of knowledgeable Soccer Coaches to help them develop their talents and reach for their dreams.
Please consider registering for the free two day Clinic as soon as possible; and also one or more of the one day sessions that are close to your home. Please be a part of that generation of Coaches who helped Northern California reach World Class status in the development of soccer talent.
Thank you, NorCal
